I am asking for your support at a critical moment for our community. The Gramling Brothers PD MUV proposal is now before Berkeley County Council, and we have a rare opportunity to influence what will happen on the land surrounding us. That opportunity will not last long, and we should not lose it through inaction.
Many of you have offered your help over time on issues affecting our homes and quality of life. This is the moment when that help truly matters—and it requires only a few minutes to send an email to the County Council members who will make this decision.
This proposal has been shaped over the past 24 months with direct community input. If it is denied, the likely outcome is that the property will be developed “as of right,” allowing up to 9,000 units with far less coordination, fewer protections, and no meaningful community input. That is not a result we can afford.
We have already seen what happens when development proceeds without accountability. When KHOV cleared wooded areas behind existing homes, residents who had paid premiums for those lots were left with little more than a narrow buffer and years of unfulfilled promises. It was a hard lesson: when decisions are left solely to profit-driven interests, our community’s concerns come second.
The Gramling proposal, as it stands today, reflects negotiated improvements—reduced density, preserved green space, infrastructure commitments, and integrated services. It is a known plan with defined benefits, and it is far preferable to the uncertainty and intensity of what current zoning allows.
I urge you to take a few minutes today to send a brief email in support of this proposal. It does not need to be lengthy—just a clear statement that you support the plan and ask for a “yes” vote.
